3 months into the new year. If you did make any New Year’s resolutions, how are they coming along? Are you on track, or did you fall prey to the same excuses that have prevented you from achieving them in the past? No time? No money? No resources? Now, it’s time to disrupt the status quo! Time for a different approach…
- What do you want?
- Why do you want it?
- What has stopped you from achieving it so far?
- What is a new approach to achieving the results now?
Sounds simple right?
Let me break it down and utilize a specific example, such as investing in Real Estate:
Let’s say your goal was/is to invest in Real Estate to improve your lifestyle.
So is that what you really want? Most likely -NO. What you do really want is to invest in Real Estate to earn passive as well as residual income, so that you can spend more time with your family and do the things that you really enjoy doing. In this case, Real Estate is just the vehicle to get you there.
The better answer would be “I’d like to create a residual and passive income”.
Great, now to question #2 (Why do you want it)? “So that I can do the things that I really enjoy and spend more time with my family and friends”.
Now question #3 (What has stopped you from achieving it so far)? Wow…., I’ve been putting it off because I AM spending time with family and friends and also the things I am enjoying. Now, this might be an interesting insight as to why you haven’t started on working towards a goal, or stopped before getting there.
The final question (What is a new approach to achieving the results now)? There is no “general” right or wrong answer. It is very specific to you!
One way of looking at it would be this way: Since my ultimate goal is to create residual and passive income, how ELSE can I achieve it by doing the things that I love to do already. You might be surprised about all the possibilities: You like to read, start your OWN book club. You like to go to the movies? Create a movie group, or write movie reviews. You like to travel, establish yourself as a writer and write about your trips. Cooking anyone? Create a social cooking group. Personally, I love to sail. I do teach sailing because I LOVE doing it.
Another way of answering the last question and finding a new approach to achieving your desired goal is to look at it this way: Fast Forward 12-24 month into the future and envision what your life would be like IF you keep doing what you have been doing. Then, envision what your life WOULD be like when you have REACHED your goal…
While it seems easy to answer those 4 questions by yourself, I have noticed a profound difference and more clarity when going through these steps with a coach…
Once you have clearly identified what you want, the AIM-SMART goal setting technique, as described in the report “How To Stop Procrastination in 3 Easy To Follow Steps”, will get you on the fast track…
